(my little tomato seedling)
“Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders.” Henry David Thoreau
The first tomato seedlings of the year are sprouting! After the thousands of seeds I have sown over the years, I still stand in awe at a seedling. They are simply perfect.
Feeling adventurous, I am trying 4 new kinds of tomatoes this year and hoping they are all the reviews say they are. Blue Beauty, Pantano Romanesco, Pink Berkely Tie Die and an oldie I have never tried, and don’t know why, Tappy’s Heritage. They are all suppose to be great tasting tomatoes, so here’s hoping.
I’m only putting out 12 tomato plants this year, but seeing as how there is no way I can start just that many, I think it’s an affliction us gardeners have, I have started enough for a couple of my brothers and a sister to have plants. I’ve thrown in 9 or so pepper plants, more for siblings still, and that will be all for the indoor seed starting. The rest of the seed sowing will be reserved for outside in the garden where I will once again stand in awe when the warmth of the soil brings forth new life. Ain’t gardening grand!?
